In a decentralised world, what are our new norms?
Crypto Crimz is an NFT universe that uncovers the secrets of a global crime family. From forgers to activists, tax hacks to dealers, Crypto Crimz connects crime with ideology by linking common belief systems.
Through Crimz backstories we get to know the worldviews of each family member, whose beliefs have unexpected connections. What do an American loanshark, a Korean activist and an Australian graffiti artist have in common? Is there admiration between hackers, ponzi schemers and whistleblowers? What vices are shared between the moneyed elite and weathered jailbirds? And what power structures control them all?
The Crypto Crimz are led by 10 Dons with distinct belief systems. Emblazoned by their heart are symbols showing grand ideologies like Web 3.0, Education, or Finance, which filter through the family where right and wrong become blurred. Take Globalisation, adored by passport fakers, sleazy expats and political dissidents alike, who all thrive off international attention. Or a reverence for Luck, shared by poker players, trainsurfers and phone scammers. Those of us on the right side of the law may even sympathise with some of these rulebreakers, who all wear their beliefs proudly.
The 99 hand-drawn characters of Crypto Crimz come to life through their interconnections in a rich criminal universe that reflect the real world. The NFT marketplace will be the ultimate arena to show which beliefs thrive.
With expertise in fiction, criminology and cognitive science, multidisciplinary artist Mark Chu invites you to dive into the decentralised world of Crypto Crimz, where we’re all guilty of having so much in common.
