Pat Younis is a Sydney-based Media Artist developing real-time, interactive installation art. Using 3D environments, sensors and video game technology, Younis explores the concept of immersion in Mixed Reality spaces; conjuring new ways of generating presence between people in the spaces where physical meets digital. With the ever-changing digital sphere becoming a companion to our daily lives, the intent of his art is to emphasise the ways in which the virtual can support and improve relationships without sacrificing the natural ties humanity has to the physical world. Younis is initialising his venture into blockchain technology using NFT’s as access to a shared virtual landscape, one that aims to offer a sense of retreat as contrast to the immediate nature of the modern world.
The Dawn Coordinate (X,Y, Z) is a three-piece installation collection that offers different perspectives of a dynamic virtual world. Presented by emerging digital artist Pat Younis, each piece acts as a window to its own unique view of a shared, vibrant naturescape that sits below an ever-changing sky; simultaneously experiencing the cycles of day and weather from the inception of the world to any given point in the future. Separated by their perspectives, each work features a sweeping Australian-inspired vista that is designed to evolve over time with the presence of the viewer.
Using the latest engine in video-game technology Unreal Engine 5, The Dawn Coordinate is the first persistent virtual NFT installation designed to elicit a familiar feeling of being out in nature, for spaces where access to the outdoors is difficult. Inspired by video games and digital art that share the same vision, the art emphasises the value of the passive and slow paced, rather than goal oriented and immediately rewarding experiences.
